The American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about public service. Intern will provide support to ADA staff and gain valuable skills and insights while assisting with event planning, corporate research and volunteer outreach for the American Diabetes Association throughout Hampton Roads/ North Eastern North Carolina. ADA internships are unpaid, but the hours are part-time and the schedule can be flexible. If your degree program requires you to do an internship, this can be used as course credit, where applicable.
This internship will enable a skilled student to assist the ADA by working on important fund-raising cultivation events. This internship will provide the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of areas including:
FUNDRAISING & EVENT PLANNING o Assist with planning & implementation of special events along with pre and post events. o Assist with donor tracking and follow-up both in recruitment and registering companies, teams and individuals o Draft letters, mail out and follow-up to prospective sponsors and special guests o Design and prepare event materials and communications including newsletters, email blasts, phone calls, etc.
MARKETING o Researching charitable programs of major local corporations o Assisting with implementation of marketing strategies o Project development and management o Strategic planning of brochure distribution o Street team recruitment and management o Research and data entry projects
* Currently enrolled as a graduate or upper-level undergraduate student * Commitment to a flexible work schedule of 15-20 hours per week * Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Internet and e-mail * Experience in database management and/or the manipulation of spreadsheets * Experience gathering information through internet research * Excellent writing skills * Excellent interpersonal communication skills * Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously * No experience necessary, but attention to detail and accountability is required * Ability to lift 25 lbs.
