We currently have an opening for a Heavy Equipment Operator at Wheelabrator Portsmouth.

Summary:

Operates assigned equipment in excavating, loading, spreading, covering and compacting earth and/or solid waste safely and efficiently.
Operate assigned equipment in unloading coal cars, loading into coal storage and unloading ash to disposal trailer.
Operate coal conveyor system according to safety practices and procedures as requested and/or required.
Operate assigned equipment for the transfer of RDF from the bunker to the feed hoppers for the mixing of refuse, ensuring a relatively constant heating value.
Grade, compact, load, move, transfer, and shape earth, mulch, compost, and/or waste.
Operate equipment in spreading, compacting and covering waste.
Inspects equipment for proper operating condition and loose or worn parts, as assigned.
Reports defects or damage to equipment to the appropriate authority.
Observes instruments while vehicle is in motion.
Responsible for the proper use, loading, operation and cleanliness of the equipment.
Performs routine clerical duties such as completing station logs, field and time reports and requisitions.
Participates in cleanup activities as directed.
Performs related work as required.
Works rotating shift and overtime as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
Six months experience or related training desirable.
Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance, minor repairs and general preventative maintenance.
